Airports
From the New York area you can fly from John F. Kennedy International (JFK) or Newark Liberty International (EWR). In Delhi you arrive at Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), which also has onward domestic flights across North India.
Direct flights
New York–Delhi is one of the busiest USA–India routes. Air India has kept its New York–Delhi service running through its 2026 network cuts, and US carriers have also flown the route from JFK and Newark at different times. When flown nonstop, the flight is usually around 14 to 15 hours eastbound.
Schedules are changing often. Since 2025, airspace restrictions and high fuel costs have led some airlines to suspend, reduce or reroute India flights - some "direct" services now make a fuel stop in Europe or India on the way. Always check the exact routing and total travel time before you book; we confirm this with you in every quote.
One-stop options
One-stop itineraries often cost less and give more choice of times. Common connection points from New York include Middle East hubs such as Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi and European hubs such as London, Frankfurt, Munich, Paris, Amsterdam, Zurich and Istanbul. Total travel time is typically around 18 to 24 hours, depending on the layover.
Tips for this route
- Many flights land in Delhi late at night or early in the morning - plan your pickup or hotel accordingly
- If you are going on to Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh or the hills, ask us to add the domestic connection on the same ticket where possible, so a missed connection is protected
- December–January and summer holidays fill up early - see when to book
Documents you will need
US passport holders need either an Indian visa (many use the India e-Visa) or an OCI card with their valid US passport. Check your passport validity and blank pages well before you fly.
