Airports
Flights leave from Chicago O'Hare International (ORD) and arrive at Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in Delhi.
Is there a direct flight?
Air India has operated Chicago–Delhi flights, but in 2026 it temporarily suspended the service from June through October, citing airspace restrictions and high fuel costs. Check with us for the current status before planning around a direct flight - when it operates, it is roughly a 14 to 15 hour journey.
Schedules are changing often. Since 2025, airspace restrictions and high fuel costs have led some airlines to suspend, reduce or reroute India flights - some "direct" services now make a fuel stop in Europe or India on the way. Always check the exact routing and total travel time before you book; we confirm this with you in every quote.
Best one-stop options from Chicago
O'Hare is a major international hub, so there are many one-stop choices to Delhi through Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi, London, Frankfurt, Munich, Paris, Amsterdam, Zurich and Istanbul. Total travel time is typically around 18 to 24 hours. We compare layover length, arrival time in Delhi and baggage rules - not just price.
Tips for this route
- Travelers from Milwaukee, Indiana and the wider Midwest often start at O'Hare for the widest choice of connections
- Long layovers can mean needing a transit visa in some countries - we check this for your passport
- Winter storms in Chicago can delay departures in December and January; avoid very short connections
Documents you will need
US passport holders need either an Indian visa (many use the India e-Visa) or an OCI card with their valid US passport. Check your passport validity and blank pages well before you fly.
